Envirotech Project

I presented the solutions I had to Mr. Diehl and doing a little research and this was some of his feedback:

  • Fire the person:

  • Fire the person who isn't restocking their truck correctly, or at least let them know that they can be fired if it keeps happening. They are causing a waste of a lot of time and money if they don't restock and organize their vehicles correctly.

  • Provide motives or affect them negatively: If firing is too harsh, affect the worker in either a positive way. Provide motives for keeping their vehicles organized correctly, like maybe cash or extra time off. If not, affect them negatively by temporarily taking money from their paycheck or causing longer hours. Knowing that they can be punished or helped for doing this task is necessary.

  • Find out about Aptora checklists:

  • Their total office manager system, Aptora, has many features that they are not using. Check to see if there is any possible way that when they log that they sold a part and no longer have it in their truck, it will automatically correspond to the par level and make/print a checklist for them in the office at the end of the day.

  • Add barcode scanners to the checklist:

  • Not only will they have to do get their printed checklist at the end of the day, they will also have to scan their checklist and their part they're restocking into their truck, in order avoid lying or laziness. Giving specific times the checklist must be completed by could also help them stay focused.

Internship

Since this was just an internship, not a job, I was not given actual projects to do all the way through. I just got the idea of what everyone was doing in the company and spent different days working on different things.

For example, some days I would work with the Manufacturing Engineers and organize/print work orders to be sent to the shop. I would even get to help them produce numbers of how many parts they would need based on their par levels and how many they generally use in a certain amount of time. Other days, I would work out in the shop with inventory workers and organize parts or label packages.

If I worked with project engineers, I would get the most "prototype" action. This is because we would work on an assembly proposal for a customer, talk in groups about what we thought would be necessary, made a model on the computer, then actually made the machines and set up the whole assembly line out in the shop to show customers when they come in.
